The laboratory's objective is to study techniques that provide an increase in oil production, especially in the Brazilian pre-salt fields. Research is focused on injection techniques of CO2 alternating with low salinity water in the oil zone.

It is located in the UFRJ Technological Park. The laboratory allows the study and evaluation of the conditions and parameters that affect the mechanical resistance of structures, in real scales, used in the Offshore industry, as well as their behavior under stress, fatigue, fracture and corrosion. It is important that these structures are tested to determine their behavior throughout their life cycle.

It aims at research, formulation, development and innovation in computational methods combined with scientific visualization and high-performance computing resources. The dissemination of its results to society is made through the publication of scientific works, the training of human resources and the realization of projects and technological studies.

It is a laboratory specialized in the application of high performance computing to engineering and science problems in general, and other areas of knowledge. NACAD's activities focus on three main lines: Research and development; Computational support to groups of professors and researchers; Training of human resources through regular graduate and undergraduate courses.

The laboratory focuses its research activities in the area of dynamics of offshore structures, structural reliability and analysis of special structures through numerical-computational simulation.
